Explore a land only 45 minutes west of downtown Salt Lake City where hundreds of wild horses roam. It's wide open. It's challenging. And all of it's unpaved. During this adventure, you'll get to experience a landscape few in Utah have traveled. Home to one of Utah's largest herds, estimated to include around 700 horses, the Cedar Mountain Wilderness contains a total of 100,000 acres and is part of the over 109 million acre National Wilderness Preservation System. The Wild Horse travels across the Hastings Cutoff, a historic portion of the California Trail and the route used by the Donner-Reed party in 1846. This segment is a part of the National Historic Trails route stretching from Independence, Missouri, to California and Oregon.
